The rejection, word for word, I have seen in an article from 2015.

Polite form letter similar to what others have shared: While this is definitely the kind of project I am interested in, ultimately I wasn’t as taken with your manuscript as I need to be in order to fully get behind it, and so I’m going to pass. -- etc

It took 82 days for him to respond to my query. On his Publisher's Marketplace it says:

I accept e-mail and snail-mail queries (although email is preferable), and will usually respond within 5-8 weeks.

I believe he answers everything but takes a while. I hope this helps.

You could send him a nudge email to check in. Something like:

Hi [Agent name]!

I just wanted to check in to see if you’ve had time to consider AWESOME BOOK NAME. No rush–I know you’re very busy, and I appreciate your time.

Thanks so much,

Has clearly stated on his twitter: "You figure this #querytip would be obvious, but I get so many of these: if you don't speak English, don't write a book in English" (

So writers who are not native English speakers be careful about querying him, as whatever he means, that tone doesn't sit right with me at all.

He requested a full in April 2020. I followed up over four months later when I had another agent make an offer. He never responded to that email. The only email he ever sent was to ask for the manuscript (which he named wrong) -- no confirming receipt or anything. As of February 16, 2021, he has yet to respond.

It bothers me when agents ask for fulls and then never ever respond back. It's disrespectful to authors who are holding our breaths to get an agent and we get so close only to get ghosted.

This is from Alec Shane's Twitter:

OK, that's my #tenqueries. Got a few hits this time, which is nice.

I have now responded to all queries through 12/31/20, not including partial/full requests.
