I thought this was a personalized rejection until reading some of the responses here. It's somewhat personalized but really a form rejection. Abby does seem very kind and engaged, I would really love to work with her in the future!

Hi Danielle,

Thank you so much for the chance to read the first 5 chapters of DIVINEST OF DIVINES. I was eager to read, and there is much that is good here. You are clearly an extremely talented writer and this isa fascinating time period!

Unfortunately, I'm sorry to say that this is not the right fit for The Lark Group. I ultimately couldn't connect to this story in the way I need to to be the right advocate for it.

Thank you again for the read and please know that I wish you all the best in your publishing endeavors.

All best,
Abby

I can personally attest to Abby being a terrific agent with a track record of 29 deals (thus far) and a stellar record on Publishers Marketplace. Beyond the kickass CV, Abby is a super-engaging person who literally goes all-out for her clients. I've seen her speak at conferences and writerly events as well. I had a terrific experience querying her and hearing back with specific, constructive feedback. (Also, for those who do not have a Publishers Marketplace account, I copied Abby's banner and most recent deals & pasted these below.)

Form rejection. I sent just the query. Not sure how so much could be "evaluated" from just a query.
