Nonfiction True Crime

Gary initially was very "personally interested" in my book, but throughout our correspondence, he kept asking for "connections to the modern day" (the case I am writing about is four decades old), and kept looking for things that simply were not there (he suggested a possible connection to a present day European child molestation ring, which simply was not, in any way, connected to the 1970's crime I am writing about). After explaining all of this to him, he replied, saying that he had, after a week of correspondence, decided not to take on the project, "as the case remains unsolved". The words "Unsolved Crime" appear in the title of my book, and this fact is mentioned several times in the 19 page proposal that I sent him, so it kind of miffed me that this was the excuse he used to reject the project after he had spent a week trying to turn my project into something it is not.

Oh well.

Definitely the most interesting experience I have had with an agent, haha.

Thank you for thinking of Signature Literary Agency with your
query. While there is much to like about your submission, it doesn't
quite fit the profile of what I'm looking for at the present time. Of
course this bears no reflection on the quality of the submission, and
another agent is likely to have a better sense of how to bring it to
the market. We wish you the best of success with your work.

Sincerely,
Gary Heidt
