@amby_b I was confused by that too, but I decided to just try her. I think it means she's open to anything plus referrals

It says this (see below) on her page. Does that mean she is only taking queries that are requested or referred? Or she is taking queries in the areas she covers (which she lists underneath the below statement on her page)?

"At the moment, due to her current project volume, Lilly has selectively opened to submissions, including referrals or requested (see Query link). This allows her to assure that each author and illustrator receives the attention she likes to give."

Hi Pauukiku. I think they must have changed their minds.

Patrick, on the Website just two days ago, she said she would be open to queries on the 15th of April. Very short window of opportunity. I submitted on the 16th; apparently, she had changed her mind.

Form rejection:6/9/17 "There's a lot to admire about this project, but ultimately I didn't feel it was a fit for my list. Although I'm passing on the project, I want to wish you all the best as you take your next step to inevitable publication!"

daviddodson -- congratulations on the positive feedback. Was this in response to a full or partial submission, or to your query+ten pages? The website indicates that the agents are unable to respond to queries unless the agents are interested, so clearly yours stood out among the zillions they receive. Good luck going forward. Hope you find the right fit soon. Have you queried Victoria Skurnick by any chance? She passed on my mss a while back, with a request for me to submit my next novel (sigh). Although it was a rejection, I found her to be very kind and helpful. Also, she used to head Book of the Month club and is agent for lawyer/comedian/novelist Karen Bergreen's clever and thoroughly enjoyable comic mysteries, so may be more open to a somewhat more commercial novel. (Karen is the friend of a friend, and gave me great support and advice even though we barely know each other, so I urge everyone to read Perfect is Overrated!!!!)

Also Erin Niumata (??? spelling) was great, giving me precise feedback when she, too, rejected my partial submission. I don't recall her genres of interest though.

sent me a nice reply:

Dear David,

Thanks for touching base - I hope you had a nice summer! Although I’m going to pass on the project, I think there’s a lot to admire here. It reminds me of certain aspects of books like The Nest, which is of course doing gangbusters on the bestseller lists. An agent with more knowledge of the mainstream commercial market will be better able to place this for you, I think. I’ll step aside with warmest wishes for your success!

Best,
Lilly
