Didn’t offer rep but gave me one of those rare “golden” rejections that actually made my book better. He is clearly professional and thoughtful. He understood the hook immediately, explained why he was passing in specific craft/market terms (pacing of the opening, ratio of yearning to jeopardy, how the frame lands for editors), and managed to be both honest and encouraging. Editorial, professional, and kind.

74K - Speculative mystery

Query: 10/30/25
Request for Full: 11/1/25 and submitted the same day
Rejection: 11/19/25

His rejection was personalized and consisted of three very robust paragraphs. He clearly read my manuscript in full and gave it serious consideration, and his commentary was thoughtful and thorough. I really appreciate him taking the time to explain his thought process, and while he ultimately decided not to give me an offer, he had a lot of encouraging and positive things to say. As we all know, querying can be a real grind, and it's nice to get some validation that I *don't* suck at this and maybe there *is* something there in my story, even if it wasn't right for him.
