Decent Amazon stats for children's picture books and some MG. Mr. Richter phoned to discuss the 2nd YA I queried, which a reader on his staff had read. After ten days he emailed a written agreement, so I asked one question about scope of representation. A week later, he emailed an insightful reader's feedback. I reminded him about the contract, suggested three changes, and committed to start revisions as soon as we had agreed on something to sign. Ten days later I emailed to say I need to query other agents until we sign. He expressed surprise and withdrew an offer I hadn't known he'd made. The lesson: If you query this unusually busy agent, be very patient. You may need to wait before signing, but do not trouble him if you must query elsewhere. He seems to be juggling a lot.

Emailed him a query and he responded right away that he wanted to have a phone call. This was before requesting material. We spoke a couple of days later and he was completely unprepared, like he hadn't bothered to look at my email again before our conversation. During our convo, he kept telling me how fantastic the agency was, how it's one of the top in the business. Sent him my material after the call, said he'd respond within a week. Didn't hear from him. Told him I had another offer. Would not go with this guy if he were the only agent left on the planet.

Full R: 6/1 (sent same day)
6/2 - Said he liked what he was seeing, and he was going to send manuscript to one of his trusted readers
6/21 - Emailed asking to speak with me!
6/29 - Phone call and he was so kind and professional! He says he hasn't finished reading it, but there's a good chance for representation! I should know by early next week. He seems like a really great guy!
