Prompt responses and kind and thoughtful personalised recommendations. Eventual declination of manuscript due to it not seeming commercially viable and there being another very similar book about to be published later in the year. Gaby suggested the manuscript might work better as fiction to allow for a more satisfying narrative arc conclusion but was careful to state that this was not "advice" as such and came with no guarantee of taking on the work should I follow this suggestion.

Just confirmed that The Naher Agency does not accept submissions for fantasy. Their submissions page wasn't very clear about this, so I asked, using the online form at http://naher.com.au/contact/ (if an admin wants to update their "online form" status to "yes"), and received a succinct but very friendly reply by email from Gaby Naher first thing the next day saying they do not represent fantasy.

Here's the text from the submission page:

"We are looking for quality non-fiction and intelligent, broad canvas and ambitious fiction for adults. If you think your work falls into this category, please email us a pitch, in the first instance.
We do not accept unsolicited submissions and any material posted to us will be returned unopened.
Although we love work that has global reach, we can only represent authors residing in Australia or Australian expatriates."

Hope this proves useful to someone.
