30 Nov: Form rejection
Dear ___,
It was a pleasure meeting you at the San Francisco Writers Conference. Thank you for submitting XXX. I liked the concept and thought ___ was a character that readers would root for. Even so, I had trouble fully connecting with the characters and staying engaged in the story. While I enjoyed aspects of the manuscript, I’m afraid I don't feel I have a clear editorial vision for this project.
This is completely subjective, so don't give up! I have no doubt you will find a home for this. Nevertheless, I wish you every success with your novel.
Sincere regards,
Lisa

"Thank you for responding to my pitch party request. I liked the concept of ___________and thought ____ was a character that readers would root for. Even so, I had trouble staying fully engaged in the story. While I admire aspects of the manuscript, I’m afraid I don’t feel strongly enough about it to move forward. But I hope you don’t give up finding a home for it; there are plenty of literary agents out there who may feel differently.
I wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors.
Sincere regards,
Lisa"

“Thank you for submitting POISON MORE DEADLY and your patience. I liked the concept and thought Vera was a character that readers would root for. Even so, I had trouble fully connecting with the characters and staying engaged in the story. While I enjoyed aspects of the manuscript, I’m afraid I don’t have a clear enough editorial vision about it to move forward.
This is completely subjective, so don't give up! I wish you every success with your novel.”

Like Jmay18 said, I wouldn't have queried her had she not solicited it. Always disappointing.
It really sucks when agents you wouldn’t have queried otherwise solicit manuscript at pitch events, and then pass because ‘the story doesn’t feel right for them’. You just think if you’d known you’d have saved yourself the rejection and not queried.

I can see why Dorian referred this project over to me. I liked the concept and thought XX was a character that readers would root for. Even so, I had trouble fully connecting with the characters and staying engaged in the story. While I enjoyed aspects of the manuscript, I’m afraid I don’t have a clear enough editorial vision about it to move forward.

“While I found the concept intriguing, the story didn't grab me as I had hoped it would. It could be that I am just not the right agent for this project.
Don’t give up; there are plenty of literary agents out there who may feel differently. I wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors.”
