EQ: 9/26
ER: 9/26

A rejection, but the most personalized and nicest rejection ever. She said my bio is impressive, that she loved my opening pages, told me that I wrote with humor, had a great ear for dialogue, and that she even admired the weighty issues that my book explores (based on what she saw from the synopsis), but that she wasn't the right agent for it.

This is another reminder (as if we don't already get reminded enough), that an agent can love your concept, opening pages, synopsis, etc. and STILL reject it, for reasons that could be personal, or that they don't know how to sell it, or don't have editors/publishers in mind for it, etc. All we can do is keep on querying...but I truly thank Ms. Eisenman for being so lovely and classy. She's definitely worth querying, even if it's a no!

Form Rejection:

Thank you very much for your query. I'm afraid your novel doesn't sound quite right for me, but I wish you the best of luck with it.

ER 9/15/16 (Passed-doesn't rep thrillers.) I'll try her with my new ms this fall and query it under commercial fiction.

Got the autoresponse about maternity leave ending on April 15... which was last Friday. Does anyone know if she's back yet? Should I resubmit? I was specifically waiting until after the 15th, but am now wondering if I should have waited longer.

update: sent EQ again 4/27 just in case; didn't receive the autoresponse this time

On 4/18/16, I queried Leigh with Venom (though I got the out of-office maternity leave message with no confirmation) and nudged her today. She passed and said it's not a good fit, though she doesn't rep thrillers, when I queried it under commercial fiction. I'll try her this summer with Chain Reaction.

Tdub, you can see the timeline if you're a premium member. It lets you know where you query's at in her queue, (if highlighted in yellow). So I think you're after mine. I didn't query her this time around and would follow-up with her next month. I don't want to over-query her, even if it's after 4/15/16.

Possibly? I queried lit fic on 4/18, so that might be me. I don't have access to the timeline, so I'm not even sure how that looks/works.

You're welcome. I wonder if I stop querying her, in spite of the autoresponse, since I sent her 2, and let this slide. Me too. According to the timeline, I'm second in her queue. There's a 4/11 lit fiction before and a 4/18 query lit fiction after me. Is one of them yours?

Thanks, KristenH. I might just follow up in a couple of weeks, way earlier than I normally would, given the autoresponse.

Tdub, I got the same thing yesterday and last Friday. I have no idea. She did say to please resubmit query after 4/15. I'm going to try again tomorrow or next Friday, depending if it goes through or not.

For me, too, Eric. I queried her around the same time, so will also resubmit.
