Thanks, HopefulAuthor. I need all the encouragement I can get! :) I sent my query letter to her on March 23, and she requested the partial on April 6, which I sent on the 7th. She responded to the partial on May 5.

IoSpohia, I think that is a pretty personal letter. Her feedback seems very helpful. May I ask how long it took her to reply to your query?

The rejection letter I received seems to have a bit more detail than her typical (and very kind) rejections, but still seems a bit form-like for her. Thoughts? She wrote:

"Thank you so much for sending me these pages from [HERE SHE TYPED MY BOOK TITLE, WHICH I DON'T WANT TO INCLUDE HERE]. I found much to admire here. You have a keen eye for detail, both sensory and emotional, that creates the historical setting with rich color and energy. Catarina is a compelling, unusual character, who anchors the rest of the dynamic cast well. As much as I like these and other aspects, including many of the beautifully wrought sentences here, I'm afraid that I struggled with the storytelling as a whole. Without a stronger sense of vision or connection, I doubt I would be the best advocate for your work. Given the ambition of this novel, I feel certain another agent elsewhere will feel differently than I - and I very much hope so. Thanks again for the chance to consider. I wish you the best."
