FQ 04/26/2021
ER 07/24/2021 (Seems to be the standard form letter with "Unfortunately, your beginning just isn't pulling us in the way we had hoped.")

I'd closed this a while back but it was nice to eventually get a reply.

I've been following her for about a year on twitter. Around last August or September she said she batch rejected TONS of people for inappropriate word count. It makes me think you got a form letter then too, just one form "resend if you add more words" to every query with low count... I hate to break it to you, but she probably never read your initial query. I'm not commenting on whether this is the right or wrong way to go about things, but that's my best guess as to what happened.

I was disappointed to receive what is apparently a form rejection from this agent. A year ago I got a provisional rejection, if you will, saying the ms. was too short, but that if I lengthened it she would like for me to resend it. On her suggestion, I added 10000+ words. Then, when I was prepared to resend, she closed her inbox for a few months. I sent a couple of communications via Twitter about what to do but there was no response. In late March, she opened back up. I re-sent the submission with the beefed up ms., tieing this to her comments of last summer. After three more months I got the response simply saying that the opening didn't grab her the way she had hoped. Wait, wasn't this the same five pages you read one year ago. There was no mention of the significant work - I would say improvement - to my ms., nor any mention or acknowledgement of our earlier connection.
I can only imagine the difficulties of managing a query inbox. It would frankly terrify me. But for all the agents who seem to demand perfection from every submission, especially that mysterious document known as The Query Letter, we should expect a bit more attention to "details". Do I expect perfection in managing queries, especially ones that take 15 months? Actually, yes I do.

@ Christi12, me too. But at 58 days my hopes are dwindling with this agent.

Contemporary with speculative elements 82k

I am nervous about this one because her MSWL specified her likes for elements that my novel I am querying has AND for my current WIP. It seems like we might be on the same wavelength, but I know it is difficult to tell. Finger crossed!
