Yay Hoptoad! Congrats!

Kelly requested my PitMad and the first 25 pages after she had requested my full manuscript last year before I did a serious revision request on it, adding over 30,000 words. She said she loved it then and I'm hoping with all the work I put into it she will like it even more! She's really cool and I have a lot of publishers who requested the novel through DVPit if I get an agent. It would be nice to have a newer enthusiastic agent who is building their client list and she even liked a prior novel I wrote and sent me tailored suggestions. Here's to hoping!

She commented on my pitch to Savvy Authors Pitch Fest requesting the first 30 pages + query. I sent these in on 05/17.

05/18/17: Full Request!
07/21/17: Withdrew Manuscript due to R&R request from other agent
09/04/17: Resubmitted Manuscript Revision

She said on Twitter that she is reopening queries on Aug 7.

Earlier this week she said she has "under 200" queries left in her inbox. It sounded like she's trying to clear them before reopening.

I guess that any response is better than no response, but I wrote this off as a CNR 6 months ago like most sane people would. The letter was polite, and I appreciate closing the loop, but it makes me reluctant to query anything again if I have to wait almost a year for a simple thumbs up/down.

I just got a request from a query sent over a year ago (395 days to be exact), so she is getting through her pile, just slowly. I guess this fits with the poster below's experience that they keep queries active until they read them.

Pitched at Philadelphia Writing Workshop on 4/8/17.

Ms. Peterson asked a lot of really good questions and even requested to look over my first page. She gave positive feedback after reading it and asked for 50 pages and a synopsis. I did learn from a first page critique panel she was on that she doesn't like it when you mention the weather in your opening paragraph. So, you might want to edit for that before querying her. I'm sharpening up my 50 pages and will update once submitted.

Today, I queried a new project to this agency. I received a response from an intern saying that my previous query from March 2016 was still active, and she told me I'm only allowed to send one query at a time per their submission guidelines. The previous query is almost a year old, so am I right to have assumed it was already read and rejected? This is the email I sent back to her:

Dear Ms. Montgomery,

I'm sorry if there was any confusion, but I have never sent the current project to your agency. Furthermore, according to the records you provided, I haven't queried your agency since March of last year, which is nearly a whole year ago. It is my understanding that after about three months, a query is assumed to have been read and rejected. So I mark any queries I never got a response to as the agent saying 'no' to representation, and I don't think of it as still being active. I think waiting a year for a reply is more than sufficient. I didn't think the agency was even considering the other queries anymore.
