I got a rejection somewhat in-line with what others have posted here. However she also mentioned that it was after reading the first chapter that she decided to pass. That stings since that means it was the writing that turned her off. BUT I'm undertaking a rewrite of the first five chapters since, in all honesty, it isn't the strongest part of the book. So I have a question for those of you with more experience: should I re-query her if I feel the rewrite is strong enough? How does one go about re-querying an agent? Or is re-querying this particular agent a lost cause since she is currently closed to queries? Any advice would be much appreciated since I'm quite new to all of this. Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your query. Unfortunately, it's not a perfect fit for me. I apologize for not having better feedback - sometimes it’s hard to put to words something that is just a matter of personal taste.

91k Contemporary fantasy horror

Oh well. She seems very nice too, but very busy.

Fantasy 66k - Five day turn around - Rejection through a canned response. It's best to work with people that care as much as you do. Canned answers don't show that. Move onto the next! :)

Also according to Twitter, it says she's closed to unsolicited queries as of 3/21. But she'll still be active in contests and such!

Thank you for your query. Unfortunately, it's not a perfect fit for me. I apologize for not having better feedback - sometimes it’s hard to put to words something that is just a matter of personal taste.

Writer's Digest, the AgentQuery Connect forums and QueryTracker are all great resources for writing, query critiques and researching literary agents as you continue towards publication.

I wish you success with your writing, and I appreciate you sharing your work with me.
