PR: 100pg request from Genevieve same day.

ER: 07/12/18. Feel super gutted by this one, but REALLY appreciate how specific Genevieve's rejection was. With references to the MS, she pointed out what she loved, and what she didn't love. This was the first query I ever sent out, and my first request, so even though I'm disappointed, I'm so happy they gave it this much thought. A few tears and a bucket of ice cream, that's what I need.....

@horrorchix89: She doesn't hate fantasy (yours or anyone's). It's just that as far as I know, Amy no longer represents YA fantasy.

PR: 5/8 from Genevieve (50 pages)
Asked if I had any other requests out.
ER: 5/18 Personal Feedback. Issues with world building. Oh well

Updating this because I was going to query a new project, but reread the rejection letter. Genevieve told me not to send them fantasy. Not sure if it's just MY fantasy she hates or everyones. Just a heads up for YA Fantasy writers

The person who manages her submissions, Genevieve Gagne, just wrote this on twitter:

"Absolutely 100 percent make sure your email address is working before you e-query! I just requested a book I was excited about, and got multiple bounce backs saying my reply was undeliverable."

Eeegads maybe check your email address? Send yourself an email from another address.

@JaeStories, I'm curious: Did she ask you to R&R based on just your partial? It doesn't say she requested or read the full, so I'm wondering how she could ask you to revise if she hasn't read the whole thing!

FR: 2/8 (from Genevieve, very enthusiastic)
Nudge with offer: 3/11
3/13 - Genevieve loved my novel but it isn't right for Amy’s list (she’s now acquiring less YA and more literary fiction). But Genevieve said she was so passionate about the story that she wanted to show it to other agents at Writers House.
3/19 - Genevieve emailed to say the agents she showed it to wanted to do an R&R, but she's so glad I already have an offer.
3/20 - Signed with another agent that I absolutely love.

Genevieve was kind, encouraging, and enthusiastic at every step of the way, and she was a pleasure to correspond with.

1/15/18 - I resubmitted my revised manuscript to Genevieve, who was thrilled to hear from me again.
Confirmation of receipt: 1/16/18
Rejected: 2/15/18

(YA Action/Drama 106k)

Again, long paragraphs about how much she loved it--but this time it was followed by a casual suggestion to divide the book into two novels. That struck me as an odd piece of feedback. I asked a friend of mine in the industry what the hidden message was, and she said that publishing houses are fiercely competing with indie publishing, with its low overhead and authors that churn out 2-3 books per year. They want, you guessed it, longer and more bankable series.

Anyway, I'm going indie and launch in June. I've been networking for a week or so and I've already gained 500 subscribers. I'm part of some major giveaways and promotional events, plus a major boxed set.

It's been fun, guys.

12/17/17 Request for first 100 pages came from Genevieve, who I assume is her assistant. Fingers crossed! Writers House is the dream agency! :)
12/20/17 Rejection This sucks right before Xmas, but better to rip the Band-Aid, I guess. She made a note about my mythology not being smooth, which is funny, because I received a full request from another agent because said agent said she enjoyed my world building. It just goes to show you that this really is a subjective business. My story has a very specific narrative structure that isn't obvious until a little later, but it is what it is, I guess.

I queried around the same time, spirit_queen24, and I haven't heard either, so I wouldn't worry too much yet. Good to know someone is in the same boat!

spirit_queen24, according to their website, queries should be sent to Amy’s email address as shown on the “Main” tab here.

Hello Debbie!
Sorry it took me so long to reply to you, I have been sick pretty much the whole month of October. I had another agent looking at my manuscript at the time Genevieve and Amy were, I mentioned it to her and I do not think it mattered since there was only one other. I hope this helps you Debbie and best of luck!
