Wendi represents early readers, picture books, middle-grade, and select YA and adult literary fiction. She’s interested in socially-conscious, civically-engaged authors and illustrators, and books that embrace diversity in race, gender, faith, and nationality. As a child of Chinese immigrants, she’s especially interested in immigrant stories and first-generation American stories. She’s also a big fan of cute animals and quirky humor. You’ll find a recent interview with Wendi here.
Like many of her colleagues at Greenburger, Wendi has a very hands-on approach to agenting. She is interested in working with both debut and veteran authors and illustrators, and hopes to develop a long-lasting relationship with each client she takes on.
Submissions:
Please query Wendi at wgu@sjga.com. The subject line should read: “QUERY: [Title] by [Author]”. Please include the query letter in the body of the email and attach the full manuscript as a Word Document. If Wendi connects with your book, she will respond within six weeks. Unfortunately, due to the volume of queries received, Wendi cannot respond to every query.

What are you looking for in a client?

I’m looking for someone who is civically minded with a sense of humor. Someone who is easygoing but passionate about their work. Someone who is unafraid of poop jokes.

What do you wish would fall into your lap right now?

A story that touches upon the complicated guilt that a first-generation American feels about her hardworking immigrant parents.

What do you want to see in a query?

Logistically, I’d like a brief intro, a summary of the story, comp titles, and author bio.

But to go deeper, I want to know what brought them to write their book, and why writing and/or illustrating these characters felt inevitable to them.

@eiverson I have never quite figured out the best way on QueryTracker to report queries that include a full manuscript. But for what it is worth, I didn't get any followup at all, so I'd take that as a good sign (for you, not for me).

Wendi asks for the full with your query, so it's hard to categorize if you're waiting to hear back on a query or a submission. That being said, Wendi replied 03/08/17 (the next day) and said she is intrigued and will get back to me soon. Wasn't sure if it was a form reply or not.

@SarahRowlandsWriter Good for you for resisting the super sketchy offer. Querying can be so hard, but it is not worth accepting a bad deal or locking yourself in to a bad situation.

danniemolguin - thanks! YA Historical Fiction

However, I didn't accept the original offer (it was super sketchy), so I'm back to querying!
