Aww man Viviane, that's awesome! Even more awesome is that it happened on my bday! I can't tell you how many times I daydreamed of that scenario on that day, haha. Congrats!

I queried Natascha on June 9th with a picture book manuscript. On June 19th, she unexpectedly called me on the phone (during dinner). She enthusiastically exclaimed that she picked up the phone right after seeing this manuscript because she was so excited about it. Then she offered representation. Since I already had another offer and the other agent had looked at (and liked) my other projects, I asked Natascha if she would be willing to look at my other manuscripts first - I wanted to be sure she liked my other work too. She was interested, so I sent them to her. She responded positively the next day via email and we scheduled a longer phone interview. I signed with Natascha because of her enthusiasm. So far it's been great; she's always quick to respond to my questions and offers plenty of advice.

"Thank you for sending me the manuscript. Congrats again on the offer! After reading [manuscript], I find your writing to be very strong, but I struggled with the disability aspect. I'm glad to know that you found an agent and I'm just writing to let you know I will be bowing out."

Seemed very nice, but I do wonder about the disability portion. :/ Haven't heard from anyone else that it's offensive, so I'm curious what didn't sit well with her... Ah well. Good luck everyone!!

Since most agents looking for picture books won't offer without asking to see more picture books first, my guess is that is what she meant, but hey--good news is two days is great turnaround time, leaving you free to query others at the same agency without a long wait!

I sent the whole manuscript for a picture book submission, as requested. The rejection came back two days later saying "after reading your sample, I just didn't feel strongly enough to ask for more." Looks like they don't bother to read queries. I wouldn't recommend wasting your time on this one.
