Queried her just now and forgot to change my "Dear Y" to her name *face palm*. Expecting an auto-reject from that.

This one's an ouch on my end. Liked the premise but thought a 12-year-old protagonist was too young for YA... which is true, and not what I meant to portray. A harsh lesson in ensuring you state the age correctly RIGHT OFF THE BAT without putting in too much backstory.

I ended up going with another agent, but Dorian is literally so amazing. Her vision for the book, her editorial insights, and her knowledge of the market was so impressive to me. Any writer that ends up signing with her is so lucky. I can't wait to see all of the amazing books that Dorian brings into the fold.

Genuinely uplifting rejection. Seems like she understands what the query trenches are like! I wish I could have worked with her.

"Thank you for your patience--sometimes the better ones take the longest. Please know I carefully considered your project, but I don’t feel I can offer representation at this time. The marketplace is more selective than ever and I must keep a modest list.

I loved the premise of this and think you are a gifted writer, however, I just didn't fall head over heels in love. I felt the storyline would be hard to make stand out on the current market. This is completely subjective, so don't give up! Please do keep me in mind for future projects. Nevertheless, I wish you every success with [TITLE]!

Keep going with it, there are numerous agents out there that may be a good fit. I wish you the best of luck!"

This is probably the nicest rejection I've ever gotten. She's so sweet. Have been so disheartened with querying lately, but this encouraged me to continue. Thank you, Dorian.

40-day rejection of 69.5 SF/F YA sent in response to SFFpit fave

Kind, thoughtful response. Would query her with any likely project; she seems like a good person to work with
