Query Guidelines

Please include a query letter that explains why your book is special, along with any credentials, and paste your picture book text, or the first chapter (or first ten pages) of your longer work below the letter in the body of your email. Please do not include attachments on the initial query, but if you are an artist, a link to a website or filesharing service (such as Dropbox) is great.

Leave comments about your experiences with this literary agent, or read what other authors have to say.

I have no idea whether a querier can do this or not, but I thought I'd clarify for the sake of the data explorer stats. I did not close due to 'nil response' after 3 days (which is the only option apart from a rejection or MS request). I withdrew my own query by sending a quick email. I did not go into detail but for anyone who's interested it's because I got hooked on one very specific element of the agent's wish list and on re reading their online profile a few more times realised they did not represent my genre.

R&R: 9/06/19 - Hannah gave me a thorough critique of the first 30 pages. She complimented me in some areas and was respectfully (and correctly) critical in others. She gave me a polite opportunity to resubmit after a thorough revision, which I've luckily been working on over the last few months. She continues to be very professional and helpful to work with.

YA SF 85K. I met Hannah at SCBWI in Los Angeles 2018. She reviewed my first 5 pages for a workshop and let me know to query her when the MS was finished.

Very pleasant form rejection:
"Thank you for your thoughtful email. After careful consideration, I don't feel your work is the right fit for me at this time, so it's best for me to pass.
As you likely know, this is an almost entirely subjective industry, and I would not be surprised if another agent feels a bit more strongly soon.
In any case, I thank you again for the opportunity and wish you the very best moving forward."

PSbookish, if you have gotten rejections from the other agents, then it is okay to query another agent at Writer's House. They just don't want you querying more than one at a time.

She said she is quite busy at this time and is only taking on new clients with stories that she cannot resist. Her letter was very kind, and I like to think it was personalized, though may have just been a very very polite form. Either way, it made me feel a bit better about receiving yet another rejection.
