I got great feedback from Stephanie Hansen when we spoke about my manuscript. Most things, I hadn't noticed at all in my writing. She also got me different opinions and critiques from around Metamorphosis, which really helped me to gain different perspectives.

Professional, courteous, and incredibly helpful. I'm really happy working with Stephanie and Metamorphosis!

I was excited to hear from Ms. Hansen who responded quickly to my query. She gave good advice and feedback on how to make my opening better and to ground my character as well as the parts she enjoyed in my story. She also offered an R&R which I'm currently working on and hope to send my revised manuscript to her again in three months.

I submitted to Miss Hansen after following her on Twitter. I am happy to report that I received a R&R. I also received incredibly insightful feedback on how to improve the opening pages of my manuscript, what was working and what didn’t work. I am presently working on the R&R and will be submitting to Ms Hansen in the near future.

We came across Stephanie Hansen on Intsagram. After asking a few questions and getting a warm response, we sent a query for our book 27th August 2018 and a request for the full manuscript the next day. We got got a response 6th October saying she wished to rep us. We signed with her 9th October 2018.

Stephanie has been insightful with her ideas for our story and regular and thorough in her feedback to us. We are working with her well and wait eagerly to hear that she has found us a suitable publisher.

They recently posted: "2018 in Review - Multiple Metamorphosis Literary Agency authors have received thousands of dollars in advances through Metamorphosis' deals with prominent publishing houses. One of the most recent deals included illustrations from one of the top agencies. Many of the authors who signed with smaller houses received multiple offers. Many of their deals were negotiated to higher advances and/or royalties covering the agency commission. Many of the most recent deals with smaller houses included audiobook publication. Sub-rights are also co-agented with successful foreign and film agencies. Metamorphosis Literary Agency has made over 30 book deals and continues to grow."

There are too many red flags for this agent. I'd rather steer clear of the sketchiness.

Something to consider for anyone considering this agent (or anyone at the agency, for that matter):

This agency is made up mostly of writers who embarked into the agenting world. They all represent each other, and none of them have sales to any major houses (aside from eBooks). Their bios claim they represent bestselling authors, yet they list no specific names and none of my searches turn up any big-names they’ve represented. Many of their sales are to small presses that accept un-agented submissions—so deals a writer can get on their own without representation, and the client now has to cut the agent in 15% for the deal.

They’re nice people and I think they genuinely mean well, but they don’t have any pull within the publishing agency nor any connections at major publishing houses (from what I can tell). So think carefully about your publishing goals before submitting here or accepting an offer.

Also, I’m not sure why a certain user on here is constantly trying to bury negative comments. But it’s obvious what you’re doing and it’s suspicious.

This rejection struck me as odd. Not because I had high hopes for Metamorphosis (I queried broadly before receiving representation from several top lit agencies), but because--for whatever reason--my submission was not fairly considered. One of Stephanie's complaints was that my protagonist's name was not mentioned until the second chapter, even thought it was CLEARLY stated in the first chapter. This showed me Stephanie had skimmed my submission rather than actually absorbed it. She also mentioned my writing was not up to snuff. I get that writing is subjective, but please, querying writers, take these kinds of critiques with several grains of salt. Just because one agent doesn't connect with your writing doesn't mean it is subpar!
