Always verify agent's information before sending your query. Verify the agent's query preferences, contact information, genres of interest, and if the agent is still open to queries.

Although QueryTracker tries to stay current, it is not always easy. Never trust any single source for agent information (and yes, this includes QueryTracker).

Review the user comments for more information, and always follow exactly what it says on the agent's website.

And NEVER give money to an "agent".

Leave comments about your experiences with this literary agent, or read what other authors have to say.

Does anyone know: if I submitted to Alex Slater via the online form and he rejected the same day (three minutes later, to be exact), do I have to wait 30 days to use the form again to submit to Alyssa so as not to be blocked? I was thinking about emailing the query directly, but just saw PawPaw's comment below about it being deleted without being read. Has anyone else submitted to a second agent within the 30 days? (after a rejection from the first, of course :)

EQ: 7/8
FR: 7/9 Woot! She gave me invaluable feedback for another manuscript which I was able to incorporate with my editor for my debut, so I'm especially excited about her reading. I maybe should have mentioned that in my query, but didn't. I certainly did when she requested!
ER: 7/17 Some concise feedback that "though talented," my combination of YA, horror, and historical didn't work for them and they worried it would be hard to place. Huh! That's become my favorite combination, so a bit concerning. :( They (Alyssa and her assistant, Gabby) were also nervous about my dark protagonist. She's a bit murderous in her thoughts a la I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER by Dan Wells. So a difference in tastes, for sure! My first response since my massive rewrite.
7/27: I emailed Alyssa and her assistant to ask if they'd be interested in a rewrite that I'm doing after talking with another agent who'd read my full at a conference. The agent had similar reservations, so I'm convinced that I can lighten up my protagonist. Alyssa said I could send it when I'm done. :)

Thanks, worddance. Here's hoping. I always thought of it as genre with lots of potential for growth, but I'm not an acquisitions editor or agent. :)

YA, horror, and historical sounds awesome to me, MissMary. That's what Diviners is. Sorry they didn't go for it, but I bet someone else is going to grab it up.
