Appreciated the quick turnaround and the semi-personalized response.

Thank you so much for your interest in being represented by Dan. He appreciated the opportunity to take a look at your query and sample pages for MYBOOKNAME but unfortunately, he is unable to offer you representation at this time. Your writing was strong, but I'm afraid that due to the enormous number of submissions we receive here at Writers House and obligations to existing clients, we are forced to be extremely selective when considering new clients.

Please remember that this is only one opinion in a highly subjective business and another agent in house or outside agency may feel differently. Good luck finding representation and thank you for thinking of Dan and Writers House.

I just wanted to mention that he/his assistant has one of the loveliest form rejection letters, hoping I'm staying safe and healthy in these times, truly apologizing for the delayed response (when I'm just glad to get some official closure). Anyway, rejections hurt, and form letters are what they are, but I always appreciate when agents have clearly thought about the people who will be reading the rejections they send out.

FORM: Thank you so much for thinking of Dan for your book. I’ve shared your submission with Dan, and I’m sorry to say that the query you sent didn’t quite elicit the level of excitement that needs to be present for us to be able to do right by your work.

This is a hard business, and our saying no is, I’m sure, just one of many hard proofs of that fact. But keep in mind that this is also a subjective business: lots of people love things we don’t and vice versa. All this really means is that it’s not right for us.

Good luck and best wishes.
