That's pretty messed up. Auto-replies should be immediate. Otherwise everything in there (I look forward to reading your work) sounds like a partial request. Heart, meet dagger.

Actually, I think she (or an assistant) sends that reply out after she reads the query. So maaaaaaaybe it just means it looks good enough to take a second glance later or the email has been forwarded on to Ashley herself.

@Zimberoff that's her auto-reply actually. I'm not sure why it comes hours later though.

I received a reply less than a day after my initial query, but it was kind of a hedge. I don't think it was personal; it may have been a standard reply:

"Thank you for your query. I look forward to reading your work, but because of the current volume of submissions I may not be able to respond quickly. If I'm interested in reading the full manuscript or proposal I'll reach out, and if you do receive an offer of representation please feel free to let me know."

I replied, "Thanks for your candid heads-up. And I am grateful for your interest. I expect there will be considerable interest in this manuscript, so I urge you to take a look as soon as you can. And I will certainly let you know if I receive an offer before you have had a chance to read it."

Has anyone else received the same message from her?
