@heyimLex - For what it's worth, when I come across this situation in Query Manager, I remove the bio section from my query letter and paste it into the bio field instead. I would advise against "refer to query letter."

YA Adventure Romance 120k

I get that the bio part is important to them, but has anyone else put in - refer to query letter - ? I'm 16 with no credentials whatsoever, never been to any conferences- all my own info is in the query letter, and on its own it feels a bit sad lol

What I'm looking for

I mainly represent kid-lit (PB, MG, and YA), and I'm interested in books that focus on friendship, conflicting identity, and the theme of truth. I’m always drawn in by a protagonist venturing into a realm where society says they don’t belong (think swapping gender norms), and characters with weird obsessions are a weird obsession of mine—teach me strange new things, and I’m yours. I’m all about magical realism, non-western mythology, and modern retellings, but I’m not the best fit for high fantasy or science fiction.

?

In PB, I'm searching for projects that teach about and celebrate different cultures and places in the world and those that tackle serious topics in really accessible ways. For MG, I learn very heavily into action-adventure, especially those based on global folklore and mythology, and I love a snarky narrator and spooky situations. In YA, I'm looking for multicultural and queer perspectives on everything from modern teen experiences to reframing classic tropes like vampires and witches. I've been particularly wanting to see some horror.

Kind rejection but generic, not the right fit.

Queried 4/1… finally marking CNR on 9/13
I’m disappointed that I never heard back. She requested the full of my last book and had helpful feedback, and my new project seemed to fit her interests. She says she’s really far behind, but it’s been almost 6 months now.

EDIT 9/20: got a full request after all, at almost 6 months!

although it broke my heart, the rejection was very kind. savannah told me everything she loved about it very kindly and went on to give helpful and specific critiques of what didn't work which i am already fixing because i believe she was entirely correct.

FQ - 3/11/21
PB - 900 words

I'd CNR'd as of 10 June 2021 and got a kind form rejection today.

Dear Erin,

Thank you so much for submitting [STORY] to me; I very much so enjoyed reading it. I have so many incredible picture book authors right now, though, that I need to be extremely selective about the projects I take on. While I connected with this one, I'm afraid it wasn't a perfect fit.

I wish you all the best finding an agent to champion your work. Hopefully I'll see it on shelves one day!

Sincerely,
Savannah
