"Thank you so much for your patience. I had set aside a bunch of queries that needed a closer read. I blinked and here we are already into mid July. So I apologize for how long I took to get back to you.

For [MS TITLE], I thought your query and sample were well-written with a strong concept but not quite what I’m looking for at the moment. Because I’m careful to keep my client list manageable, I’m being really selective about what fulls I request. However, I think another agent is going to be intrigued enough to ask for the manuscript and I’m sorry I can’t offer a referral.

Stay tough out there. Keep writing!"

EQ: 6/27 #NLAPitch request
ER: 7/04

Response if interested:
Thank you so much for participating in our very first #NLAPitch event June 21. We received over 3,500 pitches during the allotted time (plus hundreds more tweeted either before or after the deadline), so the fact that your pitch was favorited by one or more of our team is a big deal. Kudos to you!

Thank you also for following up with the requested query and sample pages. While we enjoyed your concept and found lots to like in your submission, we continue to be very selective in what we request. It is with regrets that we decline to read further. However, don’t give up on this project. Although it’s not right for us, it might be right for another agent, so keep writing and querying. I’m sorry we have no agent recommendations to offer.

Good luck with all your publishing endeavors, and keep writing!

Form rejection 5 days from query submission: "Thank you so much for thinking of Nelson Literary Agency for your query. I wish we could offer a more personalized response but on average, we receive 500+ email query letters a week. Do know that every query letter and sample are read and even though your project is not right for us, it might be right for another agent so don’t give up! I’m also sorry I have no agent recommendations to offer. Good luck with all your publishing endeavors."
