Query Guidelines

We try to respond to all queries received. We do not respond to queries that are not specifically addressed to an agent by name. We prefer straightforward query letters by email that get right to the point about what the project is and which show the author to be familiar with the marketplace. If you're submitting fiction please include the first few pages of the manuscript with the query. Please note that we do not represent young adult, romance, fantasy, or science fiction.

Leave comments about your experiences with this literary agent, or read what other authors have to say.

Dear Beverly -

Many thanks for writing. You have an interesting story to tell and there's a lot to like about your approach. But in the end I'm afraid I didn't come away quite fully convinced this was something I think I'd be able to represent successfully. I'm sorry not to be more enthusiastic but thanks nonetheless for giving me a chance to review it and best of luck in finding it the right home.

Best,

Farley Chase

He responded later the same day:

Dear Yvonne -

Many thanks for writing. You have an interesting and powerful story to tell and there's a lot to like about your approach. But in the end I'm afraid I didn't come away quite fully convinced this was something I think I'd be able to represent successfully. I'm sorry not to be more enthusiastic but thanks nonetheless for giving me a chance to review it and best of luck in finding it the right home.

Best,

I got the same letter that snowcrocus got, nearly word for word. While it's disappointing to receive essentially a form letter (though a personable one), I still believe Mr. Chase honestly considered my manuscript. Once again a bridesmaid.

Mr. Chase requested the ms. upon reading query letter. I sent a pdf version of the ms., and he subsequently requested a Word version, as the pdf did not format well on his device.

His rejection was so charming, but so fast that it might have been a form letter. Either way, as a rejection it was a class act

This Friday, 4/1/16,I've queried Farley with Chain Reaction's requery. Over the weekend, I've heard back from him with same rejection as Venom's--interesting story, liked the approach, not convinced to take it on.

A 24 hours response. This tells me Mr. Farley is on top of his submissions and is a gentleman.
Even if it's the same form letter:

I requeried Farley yesterday and heard back from him today--interesting story, liked my approach, not convinced to take it on. I'll try him this spring with Chain Reaction. Congrats Sevenrain!
