R: 2/24/26 I had CNR long ago but received this email 258 days after submitting my query. "Thank you so much for your patience. I know it’s been an absurdly long amount of time, and wish I knew best how to show you that the wait isn’t personal, just overwhelm. I also thought about whether it was best to reply after so much time—or if it would simply be a reminder of an industry where everything takes too long. I ultimately decided that, if it were me, I’d want to know for sure someone read my work and thought about it, hence the (very!) delayed note now. Still, I know our industry is full of waiting, and I'm sorry to be a part of that. As you know, for agents, it's almost a matter of falling in love--there's a mysterious aspect to the process that's difficult to describe. Though I can see a lot of good qualities here and enjoyed reading, I'm afraid I'm not having that 'Yes, this is for me!' feeling--something necessary to do well by a work and its author. So, for that reason, I'm going to bow out. I hope you find someone who feels this way, and soon, and you find your perfect fit. My apologies if you've already found your perfect publishing home and, perhaps, are already looking at cover designs! I know that much time has passed. Please know I'm wishing you the best, and I’m sorry our industry is so much waiting. Thank you again for thinking of me."
