Dear Terry,

Thank you so much for sending along your project XXX and for considering me as a possible agent for this work. I have so much appreciation for every writer in this process who trusts me enough to read through something so important to them.

I spent some time thinking about the potential of your story and my own expertise in relation to a potential partnership. I read each query with my own list in mind and specific genres I have a need for, and at this moment, I truly believeI am not the right agent for this project at this time. I am currently looking for a few specific stories, and this one isn't quite what I know I can take on right now. This isn't to say that your work isn't incredible and wonderful, but it is to say that I know I can't bring it the level of enthusiasm and passion it deserves.

This is a subjective reaction based on my preferences and current wishlist. I sincerely hope you continue to pursue your writing with other agents who rep more widely.

Thank you for querying me. I hope you find a home for this soon!

Sincerely,
Emily Forney

So I've seen some comments about the long unresponsiveness. It looks like she's back on twitter and she had taken a step back for personal reasons. She says she's now brought on help. So fingers crossed.

ETA: She was complimentary toward my ms, but said she already had something a little bit too similar.

Gosh, I just love her so much. I really enjoy her attitude and what she adds to the writing community. I thought my story was a long shot, as it's a bit more upmarket than what she typically represents, but I had to query as I really like her. Just got a form rejection--but isn't this a lovely one! She's so encouraging. Rejection below:

I'm a bit sad about this one as she was interested in my last book but it's okay. We keep going until we find a home.

90 days for a form email that was a really long-winded way of saying no

It took 110 days to get a response. Pretty sure it was a form but it was a nice e-mail.

@potatochip it's definitely hard (I had to stew about it for days), but I think it just came down to the communication thing and the fact that she was requesting more and more from querytracker and competitions, while not even replying to my messages with a 'K thanks', plus the fact that the original query was from February anyway. You definitely don't owe anything, especially if communication is like this, as biting off more than you can chew is a bit of a sign for what it's like to work with someone. Hope this helps. :)

@candlewick I think it's just hard to withdraw a full but also... this lack of communication is leaving a bad taste in my mouth...
