To echo other would-be authors...I very much appreciated Emily's thoughtful response to my query. It was a pleasant pick me up despite the rejection amidst the typical silence or polite "no thank you's" without explanation. While we are not entitled to a reason, I appreciated her feedback.

While my novel was not [yet] what Emily was looking for, I fully plan to take her advice, adjust, and to resubmit in the future!

Queried 4 March, Rejected 14 March.

The response was very kind and polite and was encouraged to approach with future work...though it does appear to be the same as the many responses below so not sure how personalised it really was vs being just the standard form rejection which definitely stings a bit, was a great pick-me-up given how miserable the querying process is, but I understand any real feedback is all but impossible given the sheer number of people querying. Regardless, still appreciated the quick and much more thoughtful response, would certainly consider approaching again with any future projects.

Such a kind response!

Thank you so much for sending along your project ______ and for considering me as a possible agent for this work. I have so much appreciation for every writer in this process who trusts me enough to read through something so important to them.

I spent some time thinking about the potential of your story and my own expertise in relation to a potential partnership. I read each query with my own list in mind and specific genres I have a need for, and at this moment, I truly believe I am not the right agent for this project at this time. I am currently looking for a few specific stories, and this one isn't quite what I know I can take on right now. This isn't to say that your work isn't incredible and wonderful, but it is to say that I know I can't bring it the level of enthusiasm and attention it deserves.

Congratulations on your offer of rep! I truly hope you've found an incredible partner!
