"I’m so sorry for ghosting you on this submission!! I was really hoping to have time to get to it by the deadline, but alas, this time of year is just so busy for me and I haven’t been able to look at queries in far too long. This book sounds brilliant, though, and I do hope you find incredible success with the offering agent. If it doesn’t work out, do let me know."

371-word contemporary PB (originally submitted 8/28/24)

9/10/24: revised per Emelie's feedback & resubmitted
9/16/24: Emelie requested additional manuscripts and author resume
9/19/24: emailed materials
10/14/24: notification of offer from different agent
10/15/24: declined to make an offer (but goodness, Emelie is so wonderful in many ways! Would totally query her if I found myself in the trenches again!)

Oh my goodness, congratulations!! And thank you for letting me know.

I am regretfully going to take myself out of the running right now, and I have a feeling I’m going to be kicking myself for it. My picture book client list is full to the brim at the moment, and I just had to close myself to PB submissions. I’m not going to be able to give each client and their work the attention they deserve if I say yes to everything I love!

I have a feeling that you and your work are going to get a lot of attention and praise. If, for whatever reason, it doesn’t work out with another agent, please do reach out. Otherwise, know that I’ll be at the bookshop on publication day, picking up my copy of XXX!

***WRITER FRIENDS!!! I'm getting out of the query trenches because I've landed an agent (feels surreal)! I'm going to miss sharing in this space with all of you. There's something amazing about this community, and I wish I could bring all of you with me to the other side. I'll see you there. :)
