Two weeks from query to rejection. Partial letter below:

Thank you for your query and interest in representation by Martin Literary Management. I regret that MLM is unable to take you on as a client at this time. We receive many queries a week and as such we must turn down many projects that might have great commercial potential.

Please know I personally read each query and that some of these rejections are based strictly on the subject of material, which may not be an appropriate fit for my interests. Also remember that sometimes, writers endure long terms of rejection before they find the winning combination for themselves. They refused to give up, as I hope you will continue to do.

I wish you all the best in pursuit of publishing this project.

Personalized Rejection

Thank you so much for allowing me to review your proposal and sample chapters. Indeed, you demonstrate a mastery of the craft and your coming of age story is incredibly timely and relevant - particularly in the US market. Unfortunately, I just didn't fall in love with it the way that I would need to in order to take it on. I'm so sorry to be unable to offer you representation at this time. I wish you the best of luck in seeking publication for your work.

Kind regards,
Delia
