Thank you so much for allowing me to review TITLE. Although I found your query intriguing, I'm sorry to say I am not going to request more pages at this time.

As you know, this industry is highly subjective and this rejection is in no way a reflection of the quality of your work. I simply do not believe I would be the right agent for this project, which is why I regrettably have to step aside.

Thank you again for considering me, best of luck with your agent search and happy writing!

Sincerely,
Clara

Accepted original offer, but had a wonderful zoom call with Clara and spoke with one of her authors who had great things to say about working with her. Absolutely lovely person, would highly recommend.

Form rejection.

She didn't say anything at all about my writing, story, or characters, she only mentioned the "Although I was intrigued by your query" part and said that she's just not the right agent for this. She didn't say why she's not the best agent for this like she's done with mostly everyone else, just that she's not the right agent for it, which implies that she didn't read any of my pages hence was why she had nothing to say about them. It all sounded very generic/form. Nothing wrong with that, but with all the praise she keeps getting for her rejections, I was expecting something more and wasn't impressed at all.

Submitted a second novel to Ms. Chuiton, an upmarket project with speculative elements at 80k words. Here is the personalized rejection:

"Thank you so much for allowing me to review [NOVEL]. Although I was intrigued by your query, I'm sorry to say I am not going to request more pages at this time.

"[Protagonist] is a very compelling character, and I love the speculative elements in this project, but I am unfortunately not the best fit for novels that lean so far into the upmarket category, I'm sorry.

"Thank you for me again and best of luck with your agent search!"
