@duriez I think any time you get solicited by an agent who then refers you to an outside editor, you can safely assume it's a scam. A friend of mine got taken for thousands of dollars through one of these. The editorial letter she got from the editor she paid was clearly just AI slop and she never heard from the "agent" again after she paid and then resubmitted. A legitimate agent won't ask you to pay an editor before they will take you on.

Question regarding Elaine Spencer / The Knight Agency
I noticed that Elaine Spencer is currently listed as closed to queries on QueryTracker, but I recently had correspondence regarding my manuscript and was asked to submit the full manuscript, query letter, and synopsis for consideration.
I also received specific editorial feedback on the manuscript and was referred to an outside editor before the agent would take another look.
I'm simply trying to understand the normal process and would appreciate hearing from authors who have had recent, legitimate correspondence with Elaine Spencer or The Knight Agency. In particular, I'm interested in whether she sometimes works with or refers authors to outside editors during the representation process.
I'm not making an accusation or claiming that anything is improper. I'm just trying to verify that I'm following the normal process correctly. Thank you.
