@kalynard even from people who claim to want to be changing the publishing industry? seems a little contradictory.

i will always come back to: heaven fuggin forbid someone insist upon their humanity being acknowledged. also it won't change if everyone just shrugs and says "oh well, that's just the way it is."

also, i do have experience with publishing industries, and it's really only fiction that is ok with the ghosting of individuals involved in the process, including authors. in fact, in academic publishing, a press and/or association can terminate a journal or series editorial board if they are non-responsive. it's only the norms you accept that persist.

Gently, this is very common in the publishing industry. When you go on sub, you won't hear back from some editors at all. As tough as it is, it's critical that you find ways to cope with the lack of response and the uncertainty. And I say this as a fellow ND person with the same need for communication and certainty--you just won't find it in the publishing industry!
