Submitted Historical Fiction, 108k words.
Response within one day, a prompt, direct, and informative response, which was a decline. Would query him again for a different book.

Queried 1/1/25 and heard back immediately 1/2/25, with a polite, clearly personalized rejection citing two main factors: that military fantasy is a small genre, so that they've already filled their slots for it; and that 150,000 words is too many for a first book by an unknown author. He even pointed me to a fascinating comp, _The Destroyermen_, which he represented. I'm now inspired to rework the book into a trilogy; I don't think he'll want to represent it after that, but I think he just might read it, and I know it'll be a better story for being broken apart that way. I never knew that being turned down could be this exciting!

Update 2/2/25: Instead of refitting into a trilogy, I trimmed to 100,000 words, following his advice that there's always more to cut. After that trim was complete, he politely turned me down, since he already has as many authors in military speculative fiction as he can handle at the moment. (I'm military fantasy rather than military SF, but it's the same area.) So he provided pro-bono assistance to someone he knew he couldn't take on!
