@rcmogo, all the agents at this agency use the same query form. So you never really know who it is going to.

When I submitted a query to Kristy Cambron, it simultaneously submitted to Rachelle Gardner as well. I don’t know if that was a glitch or what was going on but Rachelle responded with a kind form letter rejection. The query to Christie is still open, so I’m not really sure if that was a rejection from the agency, or just Rachelle.

YA FANTASY - I received a personalized rejection letter informing me she loved my writing and brand. But is ultimately passing because of how HIGH fantasy my books is. However, she referred to me someone who may be interested and that's exciting!

Her exact words, "I have no doubts you will get picked up by someone."

So I'm crying over here.

Like others, I received a form rejection that said I needed a larger platform, etc. I've never had that given as a reason to rejection fiction, and I am not going to take a year to build my numbers. I give her kudos for a quick response and for responding at all!

Letter:

Thank you so much for writing me regarding (TITLE). I like your book idea and I think it has potential. I wish I could pursue representation, but unfortunately the large publishers with whom I work require a more fully-developed platform.

I encourage you to continue building. Growing your platform isn't about promoting yourself, but about connecting with your target reader. I would advise taking another year or so to build your social media numbers, at which time you could have a shot at a major publisher.

You could also choose to go with a smaller publisher that requires neither an agent nor large platform numbers. A great place to search is QueryTracker or Manuscript Wishlist.

I wish you the best in your writing journey.

After 14 days: Suspense, 120k words

Thanks so much for writing me regarding your book. Unfortunately I’ve decided not to pursue this project. I have a great many new proposals coming in, and I must often say no to wonderful books. I regret I’ll have to pass.

You may want to contact other agents using the Guide to Literary Agents, or the Writers Market, Manuscript Wishlist or Query Tracker.

I wish you the best in your writing journey.
Rachelle
