Rejected: August 30, 2026 Obviously a bummer, but I really appreciated the personalized feedback. I was happy to know she loved the atmosphere, character dynamics, and overall premise, and even compared it to some of her favorite books, so that meant a lot to me!
The good thing about this rejection is that it seems to come down more to personal taste and reader style than something structurally wrong with the manuscript, which was honestly my biggest fear. Based on her response, I think she may lean toward stories with a more ornate, lyrical, fantasy-forward narrative, something more atmospheric and almost dreamlike, where you feel like you’re sitting inside the setting. Mine is more character-driven, with the emotions closer to the surface and more focus on tension, internal thoughts, and what the characters themselves are experiencing, more like you’re sitting with the character rather than watching from a distance.
Anyway, I hope this helps anyone who’s debating querying Grace. Moving forward with fingers crossed!
