I didnt cold query this agent. Just tried a pitch event to see where it goes. My audio wasnt working (didnt realize my MacBook needed an update), but communicated basics about the book through chat. She requested a partial and after about a month? Rejected it. Now, im cool usually with form rejections. But this one kind of rubbed me the wrong way only because we had that face to face interaction. And yes, I know agents cant provide full editorial letters as to why they rejected, but you would think if you see an author face to face, read their work, and deny them, you would get some type of pointer.

Now, I did ask her, and she just recommended betas (which i already did go through that process), and she couldnt or didnt even state a portion of the pages she enjoyed. Disliked. Concepts that worked. Didnt. Nothing.

Idk. I find it kind of rude. She was nice to talk to online. But idk. Just a weird vibe. Especially after explaining why the book was written.

Just next time, especially if materials are requested face to face via zoom or in person, a tip could really help an author (not just for myself) but others too. Sometimes betas dont have editorial eyes.

I think im more annoyed because I paid for that pitch event. And it was like $50. And the one thing i dont like to do is waste money. Might as well had just cold queried for the response I got

Q: 3/25/2026 81K Magical Realism
R: 3/26/2026 I know it's a partial form, but it's still very kind. Mine was a little different than listed below and made me feel like they read my submission.
