I queried with a PB and she liked my idea but wanted more visual gags, which confuses me because the point of the story isn't to have visual gags except in like one necessary part. Biased feedback.

Honestly, I think this agent writes comments that aren't necessarily reflective of the ms. From the comments listed here, and the bizarre comment she wrote to me, I wouldn't take her words with more than a grain of salt.

I have to say I appreciate getting any feedback at all but I am frustrated by the commentary. The character is a high schooler who finished his junior year in a coma. OF COURSE, the whole school would know about the accident, no matter how big the school was.

"I love this concept but I wanted the voice to be a bit stronger, and found the opening scene a bit unnatural--how big is this school? Would they know what happened to him?"

For background- I spent three nights in a coma in my 20s after an accident. Believe me, people talk about it.

Thank you for sending me your manuscript. I apologize for taking so long to review the material and I really appreciate your patience with me. I am incredibly behind.

I really like the writing of your sample (and would probably look at the full if I were not SO behind already). My big worry is that the voice feels a bit older than YA, possibly because one of the narrators is centuries old. I'd love to look at anything else you have, though!

Thank you for the opportunity, and good luck with other agents.

It was personalized, but I find it a bit puzzling: "I like the writing in the script but I worried the subject matter was more adult than YA (more worried about the Agamemnon than killing, to be honest.)”

My protagonists quotes from Aeschylus’ play Agamemnon before attending an execution. So the execution, no biggie, but an Ancient Greek play is too difficult for YA? We read Sophocles in 10th grade.

Liked the pitch for the book, but felt that the sample reflected a different genre. Wanted greater stakes earlier on.

Really appreciated that Emily took the time to give feedback. Absolutely understood the advice, will add it to my list of potential revision consideration at a later date.
