Form letter rejection within a few days:
Dear Jennifer,

Thank you for sending your query and for giving me the opportunity to consider your work, but I have decided to pass. My apologies for not sending a personal reply, but the hundreds of queries I receive each month make this form response necessary.

It’s important that I focus on those projects that I believe I can represent in the strongest, most enthusiastic way possible. Much of my decision comes down to my own gut instinct about whether I would be a good match for the book. There are countless admirable projects with great potential, but I am not right for all of them.

Again, I’m sorry to have to pass, but I wish you the best of luck in finding the right agent to champion your work. If you haven’t already done so, you may want to consider checking online at Writers Digest,,, and for various publishing resources.

Queried today 12/7//21) and received this automatic reply
This is an Automated Reply.]

Thank you for your query regarding your book project and for giving me the opportunity to consider your work. I receive hundreds of queries each month, and I read each one myself, but I will reply only if I am interested in seeing more material.

Because of the number of active authors I represent, I have room to take on only a few new authors each year. It is important that I focus on projects that I believe I can represent in the strongest, most enthusiastic way possible.

If you do not hear from me within two weeks, you should assume I have determined your project would not be a good fit for my strengths and that I have declined the opportunity to consider it further.

If you receive an offer of representation during the two-week window, please send a second email to let me know.

Please note that I do not consider fiction queries. If your query is about a novel, please visit our agency website to determine whether one of my colleagues is right for you.

Many thanks again for thinking of me.
