Same form response for me (3 weeks after initial query, also from Julie Flanagan): "Thank you for your query. While Anna will not be taking on the project, we do wish you the best of luck finding passionate representation for your work."

Same note.
"I’m afraid that Anna is completely inundated with clients’ manuscripts at the moment and she is not taking on new clients. We wish you great luck finding passionate representation for your work.

All best wishes,

Julie Flanagan
Office of Anna Stein"

Stawgna- I agree. I queried her when she was closed back in January 2018 with my first manuscript. She asked to see it. Unfortunately, she rejected it (a very nice rejection). So I decided to query her again with my second MS in January 2019. That's when she told me she was too busy with her clients.

Agents sometimes say in rejection letters that they are too busy with current clients to take on new ones, when, in fact, they are open but use the line to gently reject someone. Is it possible that's what happened here? On second thought, scratch that. Nobody query her. Less competition!

Can the writer who received feedback on 1/7/19 confirm whether Ms. Stein is closed to queries?

Patrick, I saw an announcement that Anna Stein is joining ICM in December. Do I have that right?

In any case, the email came from the reception address and was signed by the agency/not with a signature from Ms. Stein's assistant, so I'm not sure what review pool I'm in. =) Either way, I'm glad, as either one would be awesome. But it's interesting not to know.

According to Publisher's Marketplace, she continues to be active. Her last deal was reported on Oct. 21, 2013 for a memoir called The Seven Good Years. A bunch of earlier deals in 2013.

According to Poets & Writers, she offers the following advice for queries: "I accept unsolicited queries, but only if they're well-researched and it is clear that the author knows what books I represent and thinks we'd be a good match."

My guess is, unless you pass that strict threshold, she doesn't respond.
