Queried Memoir (75k) 2/13
Full Manuscript Req 2/13
Rejection with kind + detailed feedback 2/16
I appreciate you sharing your work with me, and I read the submission with interest and found the concept quite intriguing. Regrettably, ultimately I have decided I must pass.
I liked so much about the work, but the pace felt slow and the work often felt like it was covering the same ground repeatedly, and while much of the experience would feel familiar and universal to many readers, I would have loved the story to feel more expansive and perhaps explore more about the home community. Memoir is a tough market, and sales are often disappointing even when the author themself has a significant platform, so it's going to be necessary to really tell a buzzable story on all levels.
I could see many chapters being published individually, but taken as a whole, it felt like we kept backing the truck up and making small forward advancements, but then backing up again, so the story lacked real narrative drive.
Again, thank you for allowing me to read your work. I'm sorry I cannot be of service and I sincerely wish you every success with this project and with all of your writing endeavors.
Regards,
Gina
