12/17/12 - email stating receipt of my query
1/22/13 - Many thanks for querying Charlotte with GATSBY DELANY. We both agree that you have a fascinating premise for a novel here, and Charlotte so wished she could take it on, which is why we held on to it for so long, but I’m sorry to say that she is too overwhelmed with current projects. She does appreciate your thinking of her though, and wishes you the best of luck in finding a good home for your work.

UPDATE
ER 4/12/12
Got a very personal and encouraging rejection from Mackenzie. It clearly showed they actually read the manuscript. The rejection commented on strong point and elements that either needed work or just didn't work.

If it's not part of a standard closing paragraph, the statement "You deserve an agent who is as enthused by this story in its current form as you are, and we believe you’ll find the right one." was most encouraging in that it gives me pause to consider whether to apply their criticism to the manuscript's eventual benefit.

In the end, even though it was a rejection I see it in a positive light (and, hey, I did get to dream for week or so!) and give Charlotte and Mackenzie a big thumbs' up!

Sent Charlotte a query today at old email address, she was interested in seeing more but told me to send stuff at the new email. I wonder if she's starting her own client list? She asked for a full.

@ssfar

right you are! What an odd situation...maybe it just creates more opportunities since she's technically starting her own agency w/o sll's support?

dlpoet~

Checked the comments section for Meredith's QueryTracker listing and on FEB 15 someone posted an email they received from Ms. Kaffel stating her new email address as: meredith@sheedylit.com. I rechecked the SLL website and Sheedy and Kaffel are both excluded from their list.

I emailed my query to Ms. Sheedy, but giving the transition I'm going to sit tight and see if I hear anything in the next month or so.

@ss

meredith was still apparently taking submissions through her sll email. Someone got a request pretty recently...its possible that maybe she decided to stay with SLL vs going with ms. sheedy? Not sure...

I just checked the Sterling Lord agents page: http://www.sll.com/agents.html and they removed MS. Sheedy's link from the list. Based on the comments on Meredith' Kaffel's page is it safe to say she is totally independent now?

I quered her on FEB 7 via the SLL email address and haven't heard back yet...

Almost instant response informing me that she is not taking on new clients these days. It was worth a shot :-)
