No response, and her agency’s email response says she only responds if she’s interested in seeing more. The time limit that was given either here on QueryTracker or in the email has been reached for my short story collection. I still appreciate her consideration, however. The search continues! :)

Any ideas how to translate "3 chapters" into pages for a manuscript without chapters? 30 pages? 25 pages?

How this went:

EQ at 8:53 a.m. for a short story collection. Regarding my stories that have already been published, the query includes the words "three of which have been previously published, in ___ magazine and ___ journal."

ER at 9:14 am.: "Thank you for your query. Unfortunately, I don’t see any publication credits for the stories in _________, so I’m going to step aside. I suggest checking out the lit magazine database at Poets & Writers––it’s a wonderful resource––and submitting your stories." Email concludes with a helpful link to Poets & Writers.

Uh, what now?

This is so strange... I queried two agents today who are on vacation, and got two out of office messages. One said the usual, that she would get to it on Monday when she returns. The other, from Zuckerbrot, said this: "Thank you for your thoughtful query. I’m going on vacation this week, so I’m going to step aside. Sorry the timing isn’t right."

I'm sort of blindsided. I'm always happy for a quick rejection when it's genuine, because it's great to know quickly if an agent isn't interested, but this is confusing. I spent so much time on the query and I was really excited at the thought of her as my agent, and then I get rejected by default because I happened to email on the wrong day? I totally understand dreading a backlog of queries after vacation, but this seems a little extreme...

Closed for submissions.

EQ 12/02 (but sent an overlooked synopsis on 12/06)

Renée emailed immediately after my 12/06 submission:

Dear Ms. Krajcer,
Submissions are closed––too much work to finish before the holidays. Sorry the timing isn’t right.
All best,
Renee
