I also received the "archive" email. My assumption is that it allows us to query others at the agency and gets us out of "ghost purgatory."

96K Adults Sports Romance
Rejection: 03/19/2026
Reason: form letter that is listed below. Not a fit

Same "archived" reply as the two people below. I checked and the query was a little over 5 months old. I sometimes receive replies to queries that are over a year old and they're just standard form rejections, not this weird "archived; closing the loop" statement (which makes me wonder if it's an automated message?) Either way, this one feels especially disrespectful, I'd rather have had it as a CNR.

I just received the WEIRDEST reply from this agent. And I have received HUNDREDS (rejections, full ms requests, offers of representation).

It boils down to: "I didn't even read your query, but I'm rejecting it anyway because so much time has passed and I didn't get a chance to read it."

I mean... there's no ticking clock. Feel free to read it and reject or not based on its content, not a completely arbitrary timeframe you made up. What BS.

Jesus.

Querying is getting worse and worse.

Here is the message in question:

"Dear [AUTHOR],

Thank you so much for letting me consider your query for [TITLE], and for your patience while I got back to you. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to review it within a standard response window, and, as such, I will be archiving this query without considering for representation.

Due to the volume of queries I receive, I am not always able to evaluate each one, and out of respect for your time and work, I want to close the loop for those queries that have been waiting for my reply. Please do think of me for future book-length submissions, and I wish you all the best in finding the right advocate for your manuscript, and eventually an editorial home for the book.

All the best,

Soumeya"

ALSO, why in the world would I ever query her with any future manuscript if she is possibly just going to "close the loop" on it like she did this one? Seems kind of pointless, no?
