Just got a rejection from this agent after 372 days! (I had closed it out in November 2024 as 'No Response' -- after 121 days!) Gotta laugh. At least she apologized for the long wait.

Took her 401 days to respond, lol. I had already moved on with querying a different novel to other agencies. She did say she was sorry it took so long.

I like the rejection letter. It is one of the best I've received. lol Too bad she chose to not represent me.
Dear .....,
I'm very sorry for the ridiculously long delay. I really do appreciate you querying me. I just haven't been able to keep up with my query inbox, and it wasn't fair to make you wait so long.
I'm clearing my inbox to finally give everyone an answer. I'm passing on your submission, but please know that it absolutely comes down to my limited bandwidth as opposed to being a reflection on you or your work. I know quite a few people in my inbox have already received offers of representation, so if that's you, congratulations! I wish so much luck as you take your exciting next steps in the publishing journey.
And if you're still very much in the query trenches, I'm also rooting for you. Writing/illustrating is no easy feat and practically everyone I've ever met wants to write a book. The fact that you've already come this far puts you WAY ahead of the curve, since only a fraction of aspiring creatives actually sit down and do it. Your job right now is to continue putting yourself out there and to collect as many rejections as possible. You keep doing that long enough, one day, the expected rejection will actually be an acceptance. I've seen it happen and I know that it will happen for you, too.
Please keep going. We need your voice out in the world.
Sincerely,
Linda
