I wish I could make sense of how they read queries. It seems like some are responded to almost immediately and others never get a response. Either way, I'd love it if they would just close the loop.

Sent Query 6/18
Rejected: 6/18
No note other than busy with workload. Seems pointless to have query's open in that case... but that's just my opinion.

FR: 5/24/26, same email as others. "Given my present workload, I would not be able to give your manuscript the time and attention it deserves. I wish you well with another agent. All the best, Bob"
I agree with others that if he's that busy, closing is a better option. But I'm glad to receive an answer, at least. Agent ghosting is the worst. And for what it's worth, if an agent asks for the entire manuscript as part of the initial query, it does NOT count as a full request. I won't die on that hill, but I will take a kick in the shins on it.

A good place to start is Writers Beware, a watch group that helps inform and protect authors from shady practices.
Emailed and received a response within an hour:
given my present workload, I would not be able to give your interesting book of the time and attention it deserves.
I wish you well with another agent.
I'm still not quite sure how to take the "interesting book" comment...my literal brain is probably overanalyzing but regardless, I always appreciate a response.
