Hard Sci Fi/Dystopia/Horror novel 123k words
Submitted: 1st September 2025
Rejected: 19th September 2025
"Thank you for sending me the manuscript. This is a great premise and your writing is very strong. Having had a chance to consider, I'm afraid I did not quite click with your work enough in the way I need to with the manuscripts I take on, and so I'm sorry but I will have to pass. I recommend trying to tighten the word count up a little more, then submitting UK or US agents with a classic SF focus. Thank you for the opportunity, and good luck with your writing.
Best wishes, Alex"
It was a polite rejection after meeting Alex in person and submitting the first chapter (~10 pages). I think if she had read more, it would have clicked more. While Alex does represent sci-fi, I think I may have misjudged what she was looking for and what I've written, and I’ve considered that Alex probably wasn't the best fit for my submission. There is a big difference between sci-fi like Ready Player One and something like The Three-Body Problem.
