Helpful reminders:

Do not forget to include contact information.

Please allow a minimum of 8 weeks for a response; depending on the current volume of submissions it will likely be longer.

We do not keep and are not responsible for maintaining records or copies of the queries we receive.

Please do not accept solicitations from anybody who is claiming to be on our staff but does not have an email address under our domain, @dblackagency.com. Any solicitations that come from a slightly different email address are impersonators. We will never ask our clients or prospective clients to pay a fee to have an agent on our staff represent them.

Yes, this agency is stating they reserve the right to run your manuscript through an AI detector to see if anything flags as AI. The contention is that the AI detector is also AI, which means the manuscript is being analyzed by AI, which many writers don't want, hence the hesitation to submit to this publisher in general.

@nbcarroll, the previous commentors don't want their manuscripts given to an AI detector because that's still putting one's manuscript into the world of AI analysis, it's still an AI system, there's still a lot of conflict with AI using words submitted for training the AI. A lot of people don't want their manuscripts given to the machinery in any way, shape or form and want their written words to be seen by human eyes only.

I wish I’d known about the AI detector usage when I queried in March. I don’t remember seeing anything about it on their site then.

@nbcarroll Unfortunately, AI detecters themselves are a form of artificial intelligence.

It is a personal/ethical decision to withdraw. They are certainly not alone in their use of AI for query reading. I would just prefer an agency that does not need to rely on AI software to evaluate queries. I encourage you to research and make the best decision for you.
