In addition to the autoresponse about being closed, I just got a reply to a similar effect -

Thanks for sharing your work. I’m dealing with some family stuff so I can’t take this on. Sorry. Best of luck with it!

Hi All
Thanks for reaching out. I'm working through some family health things and closed for submissions at this time and won't be able to respond. I hope to be able to re-open to submissions in the spring. Thanks for understanding.

Hands down the nicest rejection on a full request I have ever received. Too similar to some of his current work and a tough MG market right now, but forwarded some resources and invited to submit new stuff when he opens again. Nice guy.

@nanyemcc - yes, believe just a query.

EQ: 4/28
ER: 4/30

Personalized rejection that client is working on book with somewhat similar premise and wouldn't be fair to rep both. Very kind and encouraging.

There are not guidelines on his website about what exactly to include in a submission. What did other people send? Just a query letter? Did anyone include pages?

Really nice note from him. Please note that he really dislikes fantasy! My book is only lightly fantastic, but he said "I don’t read fantasy and never have. I couldn’t make my way through the Hobbit and fairy stories just don’t grab me viscerally."

Received personal rejection 2/17. Basically said it wasn't a good fit and would have a hard time selling the project. Understandable considering the subject but still disapointing.

Full request (within two hours!!)

He said he wanted my main character to be more likable at the beginning. He also said he wasn't much of a scifi guy and only requested my full because my query was good. Why request something you know you're not going to like? I'm pretty disappointed.

MG scifi, 60k

EQ: 11/12 (MG 50k)

As others have noted, sent an extremely kind rejection -- said he liked what I was doing but due to his lack of passion for the subject area my novel covered, he wouldn't be able to give as good of notes as he would've wanted. Breath of fresh air for a rejection in the querying trenches :)

This is the nicest guy ever. Seriously. He's super fast in his replies and very kind. I queried a MG manuscript with him about a year ago, and I decided to try him again with a new project just because he impressed me in his response to the last one. He has been so generous and gracious, and his notes really helped me make my ms so much stronger!

As with others, very personalized response. Working on a similar project with another client right now.

His rejections are so kind and helpful that it takes away the disappointment. He is very encouraging.

As others have said Kevin takes the time to send helpful rejections. Not necessarily specifics - change this, change that - but it sounded like he actually read the materials and send recommendations crafted in my general direction. I appreciated the time and effort he put into it.

as it looks like with other folks, he gave extremely helpful and encouraging insight.
A very kind rejection.
I feel that if you get Kevin for an agent, you'll be lucky indeed!

Very encouraging and helpful with explanation that my manuscript too closely matches a current one of his.
