FYI-- I sent my query to the Kaplan agency email address and did not receive an auto response. She emailed me from her gmail account. Hope that helps.

Thank you, Vicky! That's really helpful. :)
Did those of you who submitted use the kaplan address or the one listed here?

UPDATE: Very kind personalized rejection---she said she admired the writing but hadn't had much luck selling a manuscript with a similar premise. Ah, well. Onward and upward! :-)

------

Submitted a query and pages in response to her request from a first-line contest. I was pleasantly surprised she liked it---and to be honest, based on what I've read about her tastes, I think my novel is a bit out there for her. But she asked to see more, so I figured it couldn't hurt to go ahead and submit. :-)

I've read she doesn't do sci-fi, but is into futuristic and Shakespeare retellings, which mine is all three. We'll see. She's quick, to say the least, and nice.

6/19/12 - ER but said to feel free to send other queries her way.

6/19/12 - resubmitted DATDI (orig. sent 6/14/10 - no response) - Dear Mary,
Thanks for your email, and you're right -- I don't have a record of receiving the query for DEATH AT THE DRIVE-IN. While the premise sounds compelling, I regrettably must pass (specifically, it sounds similar to a project I've had no luck selling, and I'm concerned I may not have the right optimism for it).
Again, thank you for re-sending your query; I wish you all the best with your writing. Warmly, Michelle

Boo! Very detailed, nice response. Said she had no doubt I'd find an agent that wanted this... Cool, but still frustrating!
