QT: Can you tell us a little bit about the book for which you've found representation? What inspired you to write it?

Jasmine Querria:
TSBOL is a Gothic Horror Romance about soul ties, love, racism, fear, and the secrecy of religion. I wrote it as a reflection of my own life and experiences with love, racism, and spirituality.

QT: How long have you been writing?

Jasmine Querria:
I have been writing professionally for four years, and recreationally since I was in the fourth grade.

QT: How long have you been working on this book?

Jasmine Querria:
For a few months.

QT: Was there ever a time you felt like giving up, and what helped you to stay on course?

Jasmine Querria:
Querying is a tough journey for all writers. I approached the querying waters cautiously; as a black woman, our voices struggle to be heard, and, truthfully, I didn't think I would find an agent who understands that. I never gave up because I have always wanted to be a traditionally published author. My dream is to one day walk into bookstores around the world and spot my story on their shelves–knowing that my voice has reached thousands of readers is the real reason why I write.

QT: Is this your first book?

Jasmine Querria:
This is not the first book I have written, but it will be the first I traditionally publish.

QT: Do you have any formal writing training?

Jasmine Querria:
I did not.

QT: Do you follow a writing routine or schedule?

Jasmine Querria:
I write as the inspiration floods me.

QT: How many times did you re-write/edit your book?

Jasmine Querria:
I am on my second round of revisions.

QT: Did you have beta readers for your book?

Jasmine Querria:
I did.

QT: Did you outline your book, or do you write from the hip?

Jasmine Querria:
I write as the words flow from me like a burst dam.

QT: How long have you been querying for this book? Other books?

Jasmine Querria:
A couple of months.

QT: About how many query letters did you send out for this book?

Jasmine Querria:
Forty.

QT: On what criteria did you select the agents you queried?

Jasmine Querria:
Agents seeking horror, romance, and gothic fantasy.

QT: Did you tailor each query to the specific agent, and if so, how?

Jasmine Querria:
I did not.

QT: What advice would you give other writers seeking agents?

Jasmine Querria:
Never give up. Publishing is all about finding your perfect partner/champion, not just for the story you are querying but for your entire career.
