Always verify publisher's information before sending your query. Verify the publisher's query preferences, contact information, genres of interest, and if the publisher is still open to queries.

Although QueryTracker tries to stay current, it is not always easy. Never trust any single source for publisher information (and yes, this includes QueryTracker).

Review the user comments for more information, and always follow exactly what it says on the publisher's website.

I received an email with a contract attached as a file. After reviewing, I emailed back with a few changes I would like made and the publisher was agreeable to a couple of my needs. The ones she would not budge on were deal-breakers, and I moved on.

FQ: 2/8/21
Full Request: 2/10/21 - Kat Hall
3/22/21 - Out of professional courtesy, I wanted to let you know that I had received a contract offer from another publisher today. They are asking for a response by 3/29/21. I have yet to make a decision. If you have an interest in my manuscript, I would be interested in reviewing a contract you have to offer. Regardless of your decision, I appreciate the time and interest you have put into me and my work.
3/23/21 - Thank you for advising of the offer on your book. The content editor is reviewing it at present. Another editor read it and really liked it. I will have a decision for you no later than the 28th.
3/28/21 - "so, 4th choice - Champagne got back to me: "The editor has reviewed your submission and they really like it. The publisher has agreed to publish your book. They said by Wednesday you should have the contract. If not, give me a shout. It will be coming from publisher@champagnebooks.com so check your spam folder in case it goes there." - Responded that I had to answer the other publisher 3/29/21 and asked if I could get a contract sent over tomorrow for review.

Like many other commenters here, I too received a rather nasty rejection letter from Cassie Knight. Initially, she sounded excited and asked for the full manuscript, but after six weeks she came back with a reply listing several problems my editor and I disagreed with. She suggested that I look online to resolve many basic grammatical problems. My editor and I both know the difference between farther (physical distance) and further (all instances but physical distance), and the difference between toward and towards is strictly a regional preference. It's almost as if this lady just didn't like the story but felt compelled to make up some elaborate excuse why it had to be rejected. We're all big kids here, Ms. Knight, and we know that a story can be accepted or rejected for completely subjective reasons. There's no need to insult us here.
